Meet one of the rare gems at CRCCS: the Lapponian Herder! This beautiful girl is Indie.
Originally from Finland and developed by the Sámi people to herd and guard reindeer, the Lapponian Herder is a true working dog through and through. This medium-sized, spitz-type breed is known for being intelligent, energetic, loyal, and always ready for a job.
Our Indie fits the bill. Like many Lapponian Herders, she is very intelligent and loves to work her brain as well as her body. Indie is friendly with people, and excels when given structure and purpose. Although Indie has a very gentle spirit, she has some energy so a family or individual who enjoys being active is best for her. We are learning about Indie every day, and cannot wait to show her new family all of her favorite games, activities and ways to make them smile.
I AM REALLY GOOD AT: cuddling up with people and hanging out with other cool dogs.
I AM AT MY BEST WHEN: I have the opportunity to play with other fun dogs like me.
I DON’T REALLY LOVE: loud noises, and sometimes if a new person moves too quickly with me, I get uncomfortable. I might even come off a little shy, but I’m not so much shy, just unsure of the new situation and person. Just give me a little time.
I NEED SOME HELP WITH: structure and manners. I’m a really good and smart girl, but am a little behind on my learning. I know I can make up for it with a patient leader.
WHAT I REALLY WANT YOU TO KNOW ABOUT ME: I am super smart and really love to stretch my brain. My confidence keeps growing the more I understand and master. I’m also quite playful, and crave affection from my people.
